Your Senior Year Photographs

Senior year is all about having fun and tackling new adventures, right? So why not channel that right into your senior portraits?…Let’s call them senior photos because ‘portrait’ is so formal! Seniors are getting much more creative and the days of just the cap and gown formal portraits has gone. Considering the cost of senior photos, the trend to truly personalize them is perfect. I’m loving this new movement!

Don’t get me wrong, you earned that cap and gown, so we’ll get some snaps of that, but I want to see the fun and creative side of you too. I strive to bring out the personality in my seniors. Before any session we sit down and discuss what’s truly unique to you. You want a GQ-fast food shoot like Andrew McBurnie at Taco Bell? You got it! I love that he used that opportunity to 1. Look freaking sharp and 2. Chose a location that he and his friends spent a lot of time at during his high school career. You can’t look at those photos and not see his personality shine right through, serious – but clearly not too serious.

Sarah’s Bridal Portraits

The sun was soft and warm, the morning of Sarah’s bridal portraits. She was ready at the break of dawn, her mother having flown on a red-eye flight to make sure she was there to help. Sarah’s dress is strapless with pockets and a gorgeous belt. Combined with the sun and nature, Sarah’s bridal session is nothing short of gorgeous.

I am excited to share Sarah’s bridal portraits, as she and Earl got married yesterday! Remember their engagement session? The wedding was beautiful and fun! Congratulations to this amazing couple!

Wonder Woman Bridal Session

Finding a lack of ingenuity within the wedding world for bridal sessions and weddings with personality, I have been planning and photographing styled sessions to show you can do this in a timeless way. That was the goal behind this Wonder Woman bridal session. I wanted to incorporate touches that were distinctly Wonder Woman without it being too garish. Weddings are moving more towards a showcase of the couple and illustrating their personality.  And I feel superheroes are vastly under-represented and seen as too comical to be taken seriously. Well, no more!

Inspiration

The inspiration for the Wonder Woman bridal session started with the origins of the woman herself. In her mythology, she is a demigoddess and warrior of the Amazons. Basically, a regal princess. The Amazons from Greek mythology bring to mind lush gardens and greenery, columned architecture and long flowing one-shoulder dresses. I wanted all of this for the session.

With particular attention paid to not making this session too garish, a team was assembled! What makes this have a Wonder Woman feel without being too comic-booky is the dress. And it being combined with the location. Rice University has columns galore and lots of lush greenery. The dress was simple but elegant. It draped over one shoulder and had a gold waistband. As an added touch, a gold lasso was incorporated to hang at her side. The finishing touches were the accessories–with particular attention paid to the head piece. This piece is the most obvious for the Wonder Woman touches, but is still elegant. Overall, I feel this session looks elegant and is inspirational all at the same time!

I held onto these images for a while because it was published in Offbeat Bride in October. When I saw that the movie was going to be released early this year, I decided to roll these images out in conjunction with the movie. Which, I must add, was amazing!!!

Mommy & Me Minis

These next two Mommy & Me minis were set in the morning. The very early morning! The sun was so much softer, a little less golden. The softness made for pictures that made me rethink whether I preferred evening sessions. Plus, it was nice and not crazy hot, which is a miracle in May in Houston.

The Shanks

I have been photographing these sweet twin girls since they born and in the ICU. I still remember when Eileen told me she was pregnant, she was so excited and happy. And these girls are two years old! From her Facebook posts, Eileen loves dressing up her girls all the time. So it should be no surprise that all three ladies were dressed up for their 7am session. Coffee in hand, Eileen didn’t only make this session work, she and her girls rocked it!
