Houston wedding photographerBeing Relaxed?

Let’s be honest, being relaxed and feeling comfortable in front of the camera can be a challenge. It’s uncomfortable initially, you don’t know what to do with your hands, how to stand and I know I am always thinking “is my face weird?”. I am also probably obsessing over my body and thinking about the parts that displease me the most {my arms, if you’re curious}. That’s why I am writing this! There are truly techniques and little things you can do to make you look better in pictures and have more fun.

1. Make the People with You Laugh

If it is you and a significant other, there is a ton of opportunity to do this. My favorite is to get a couple wrapped in each other arms and have them say “banana” in a sexy whisper. It is guaranteeeeed laughter. For groups and couples I always encourage tickling and fake farts. Or sharing an embarrassing story. When you laugh, everything feels natural and you aren’t thinking in your head “what do I do with my hands?”. View full post »

Can I just come out and say how obsessed I am with Carson + Katy’s marriage proposal? And when I say obsessed, I am not being dramatic. Carson put a lot of thought and effort into this proposal, wanting it to be personal, fun with just a dash of nerd. And honestly, can we really say that Harry Potter is nerdy anymore?

The Set-Up

Carson decided not to risk inclement weather and rented a studio for the proposal–The Houston Studio! She had a vision of balloons in her head, and when I informed her of Big Ass Balloons, that’s when the magic started to happen. She got some amazing balloons, spelling the words “Marry Me” and two large balloons filled with confetti on the side.

Stan Lee

Stan Lee SDCC 2017

Meeting Stan Lee is on my bucket list. I mean obviously because he has imagined the coolest superheroes ever. But also because he seems like a super cool guy. And sure it could be just the persona we see in the movies/TV, but seriously, if you have created all these cool characters, I feel you have to be cool.

Of course there are no details yet as to what day Stan Lee will be there, but he will be doing a “spotlight panel”. So let’s just hope that it is the days I have tickets. Is it impatient of me to wish there were more announcements of the organization of this convention? I want to be buying photo ops immediately! View full post »

best vendors for your weddingBest Vendors for Your Wedding

Finding the best vendors for your wedding can be tricky! These 6 tips are a guide to help you navigate hiring the best vendors for your wedding. You are essentially planning a big party, with a lot of people contributing to it. It can be overwhelming, and more times than I care to admit, I have heard horror stories about everything to florists, to bakers, DJs and venues to {gasp!} photographers. You don’t want that to be you! To help you make the best decisions possible, here are a few tips from my experience both as a bride and as an industry professional.

Contracts

Have one!

Promise me now, you will not hire any vendor without signing a contract. A contract you have read and understand. This piece of paper isn’t there to just protect the business owner; it’s there to protect you too. It sets the expectations for both parties to come together and do business. The wedding industry is made up mainly of self-employed individuals, and if you know the ‘right’ person, you might get a great discount {yay you!}, but don’t hire them if there isn’t even a whisper of a contract. That contract holds them accountable for their services to you and outlines payment, among other things.

Mommy & Me

These mommy & me sessions have been nothing but gorgeous. And they are so simple! A lace teepee, flowers, a blanket. You add my amazing clients and the sun, and blow me over, these mommy & me sessions are stunning!!!

The Blanchards

The mom, Kat, is one of my coaches at the my crossfit box. She leads a life that is crazy busy, not only running a small business, she trains every day, has two children who do sports, among other things. For her it’s not about having a magical moment of time reveal itself as free for photos. Nope, this busy mom a few days before, was able to make the time for the session.

Fun story: Kat’s husband was there {and helped setup the teepee, thank you!!}. While we were doing pictures, he was hanging out in the shrubs to the side, found a perfectly good woman’s shoe and decided to go looking for anything else. He convinced us he had found a body {he didn’t}! So now we have this mystery: what woman left this brand new, beautiful show behind in the bushes??
